Arturo Gordon Pym, el joven protagonista, tenia asegurado su provenir, gracias a la herencia que le iba a dejar su abuelo, un famoso abogado. Pero este no era el futuro ideado por Arturo. En su cabeza daba vueltas la idea de ser marinero, quizás influenciado por Augusto, el hijo del capitán Barnad. Nada más hacerse la mar en la goleta Ariel, son hundidos por un ballenero que se dirigía a puerto. Una vez a salvo, deciden intentarlo otra vez. En esta ocasión, el mar y los elementos atmosféricos van a ser sus enemigos, sin contar la sed, el hambre, y los piratas. Tendrán que convertirse en antropófagos para poder sobrevivir. ¿Lo conseguirán?
